MASTERS OF HISTORY

2 Kings 1:13 And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.

It is well said that history will keep on repeating itself because people will not just learn from history. Those who refuse to learn from history are slaves of history but those who investigated, monitored events and discern a recurrence and took action against such are masters of history. They knew what history had revealed to them and they took a stand and said NO to a reoccurrence. This is the case of the third captain sent by King Ahaziah of Samaria. He was not the first captain of fifty to be sent. Maybe if he was, he would have been roasted. But he knew what happened to the first-two captains. Armed with ‘their-story’ which became ‘is-story’, he approached Elijah… O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight (2 Kings 1:13-14).

I believed the news of what happened to the first-two captains would have caused him to panic. I believed he meditated well on these events and concluded on what to do. He must have concluded, if you were sent on a foolish errand, you apply wisdom to deliver it. Masters of history are inquisitive to know why a matter; what caused this and that; they observed patterns; they research/study their ancestors and predecessors. They ask their parents questions; they don’t judge them but rather an opportunity to gather information. They afterwards began to process the information they have gathered to see how it can help them. Be reminded again of history has an umbrella term that relates to past events as well as the memory, discovery, collection, organization, presentation, and interpretation of information about these events. The second captain of fifty should have known of the possibility of a reoccurrence of what happened to the first captain of fifty. The first captain should have equally enquired who Elijah was. Did he not hear of Elijah, the man that commanded the fire of God on Mt. Carmel who killed 850 prophets of Baal and grooves all by himself. Such a man one would think twice before confronting him.

How do you become a Master of History? Investigate the past; ask questions from everyone: parents, uncles and aunties; read extensively and gather information over everything, persons and places that are connected to you. Analyze the pattern of events of the past; look at why it caused what it caused and take stand against such in your life. History is a powerful force, don’t joke with it. On November 4, 2008, Juan Camilo Mouriño, the Interior Minister of Mexico was involved in a plane crash within the airspace of the capital killing all eight people on board. Three years after on November 11, 2011, Francisco Blake, the man who succeeded Juan Mourino died in a helicopter crash inside Mexico and sadly and incidentally with 7 other people. In both crashes, eight people lost their lives; the key persons are both Mexico’s Ministers of Internal Affairs. What an evil coincidence!
